Team Atishi carried out a ground inspection in Delhi as part of the “pothole-free by Diwali” initiative.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her cabinet members conducted a street inspection today to evaluate the state of the roads in the national capital. This initiative is part of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s effort to eliminate potholes before Diwali.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Atishi shared, “The entire Delhi government office has been at Ground Zero since 6 am to inspect the roads and make all the PWD roads in Delhi pothole-free. I monitored the road conditions at various places, including NSIC Okhla, Modi Mill Flyover, Chirag Delhi, Tughlaqabad Extension, Mathura Road, Ashram Chowk, and underpasses.

Atishi highlighted the deteriorating condition of the roads, which has led to significant traffic issues for residents. “I have directed officials to repair the roads urgently. With Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, we are committed to ensuring that the people of Delhi can enjoy pothole-free roads by Diwali,” she declared.

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia focused on the Patparganj area in east Delhi. Bhardwaj noted that “Delhi has witnessed heavy rains recently. While many roads are in good condition, some sections, just 50 meters long, have been damaged due to waterlogging. We have raised these issues with Chief Minister Kejriwal, who has urged us to take immediate action.

Asked about the impact of AAP’s pothole-free campaign, especially given its 10-year rule in Delhi, Bharadwaj replied, “We have to be honest about the issue. The government acknowledges that the roads are in bad shape and need urgent attention. The BJP’s complaints are misplaced. Yes, the monsoon has affected the roads, but Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s six-month detention has disrupted many projects in Delhi. Now that he is back, we have been directed to resolve these issues quickly.”

Minister Gopal Rai began inspecting areas in Northeast Delhi, such as Yamuna Vihar and Wazirabad Road, declaring, “Our sole objective is to ensure that all roads in Delhi are properly repaired.” At the same time, other ministers, including Imran Hussain, Kailash Gehlot, and Mukesh Shehrawat, carried out inspections in different regions, highlighting the party’s dedication to maintaining roads.

Former Chief Minister Kejriwal assured residents that work halted due to his arrest would resume. “I visited Delhi University with Atishi yesterday, and the roads there were terrible. I have asked Atishi to thoroughly survey all handicapped roads in Delhi within the next three to four days. All our state legislators and ministers will actively participate in this survey to expedite repairs in the coming months and minimize inconvenience to residents,” he said.

Earlier this month, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inspected West Delhi, voicing his concerns about the condition of the roads and the residents’ living conditions. He characterized the situation as “worse than hell,” highlighting problems like flooded roads, overflowing drains, and significant sanitation issues.

The BJP responded sharply to the Lt Governor’s remarks, saying, “If it were not for the continuous disruption caused by the LG, the desilting and sewerage works in Delhi would have been completed before the onset of monsoon.” It’s important to note that the LG plays a significant role in Delhi’s governance, overseeing certain administrative functions.

This initiative to eliminate potholes represents the first significant governance campaign launched by the AAP since the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal in a corruption case. Shortly after his release, Kejriwal announced his resignation as Chief Minister, stating that he would only return to office if re-elected. In the meantime, Atishi has taken over as Chief Minister while the AAP prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi early next year.
